This Privacy Policy explains how Optimal Reality LLC ("COURAGE", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you visit couragetalent.com (the "Website"), use the COURAGE creator portal at couragetalent.com/portal (the "Portal"), authenticate via TikTok Login Kit, or otherwise interact with our services (collectively, the "Services"). By using the Services you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1. Who we are
Optimal Reality LLC is a Wyoming limited liability company that operates the COURAGE creator agency. We are the data controller for personal information collected through the Services. You can contact us at privacy@couragetalent.com for any privacy-related inquiries.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide directly
- Contact information — when you email us or submit a contact form: your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
- Creator applications — when you apply to join COURAGE: your full name, TikTok handle, email address, date of birth (used to verify you meet TikTok's 18+ age requirement for Creator LIVE; we store the date you provide and do not request government ID at signup), country of residence, follower bucket, live-streaming experience, programs you're interested in, newsletter opt-in, and any notes you choose to provide.
- Profile information — once signed, optional profile details (display name, pronouns, hometown, time zone, vibe tags, interests) you choose to add to your portal profile.
2.2 Information from TikTok Login Kit ("Sign in with TikTok")
When you sign in to the Portal using "Sign in with TikTok", you
authorize TikTok to share information with us via TikTok's Login Kit on
the user.info.basic and user.info.profile
scopes.
Fields we request and use:
- open_id — a stable per-app identifier we use to recognize your TikTok account on future logins.
- union_id — a stable identifier linking related TikTok-family accounts.
- display_name — your TikTok display name, used to greet you in the Portal and to prefill your signup form.
- avatar_url — a link to your TikTok profile picture, displayed in the Portal header.
- profile_web_link — your TikTok profile URL, from which we extract your @username to prefill the signup form. We do not store the URL itself; only the parsed @username is retained.
Fields the user.info.profile scope makes available
but that we do not request, store, or use:
- bio_description — your profile bio text.
- is_verified — whether your account has a TikTok verified badge.
- profile_deep_link — a deep link to your TikTok profile inside the TikTok mobile app.
We do not receive your TikTok password, your TikTok email address, your followers list, your follower count, your video content, your direct messages, your engagement data, or any data outside the two scopes listed above. We do not post, comment, message, follow, share, or take any other action on your TikTok account on your behalf. Login Kit is used for identity verification and account recognition only.
2.3 Information collected automatically
- Server logs — IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages requested, and timestamps, retained for security and reliability monitoring.
- Session cookies — after Portal sign-in we issue an HTTP-only, signed session cookie that identifies your COURAGE creator record. The cookie expires 30 days after issue.
- Short-lived OAuth state cookies — to protect against CSRF attacks during the Login Kit flow; these expire within 10 minutes.
- Country from IP geo-lookup — when you submit the creator application form, we look up your IP address against the ipinfo.io country database to suggest a country preselect on the form and to flag self/geo mismatches for staff review. The lookup returns only a two-letter country code and never your precise location. See Section 4 for what we share with ipinfo.io.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Operate, secure, and improve the Website and Portal;
- Authenticate you when you sign in to the Portal via TikTok;
- Respond to your inquiries and process creator applications;
- Communicate about your account, the Services, and creator opportunities;
- Send the COURAGE newsletter — new programs, open campaigns, and updates — to creators who opted in during signup. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email or by emailing privacy@couragetalent.com;
- Operate the COURAGE Match directory and peer-feedback features for signed creators. Other signed creators can give your profile a thumbs-up or thumbs-down vote and attach a private note. Aggregate counts and individual votes are visible to you on your portal feedback page. Notes are private to the rater and to COURAGE staff for moderation only — they are never shown to the rated creator. Staff may remove abusive or off-topic feedback entries;
- Run the COURAGE video monetization wizard: when you submit a TikTok post URL through the wizard for a clipping campaign, we fetch the public TikTok post page (and the public TikTok creator-profile page) to verify the post meets the campaign's requirements (required sound, length, hashtags, @mentions). We do not access your private TikTok data, your DMs, your followers, or anything outside of publicly visible content;
- Route your application to the correct regional Backstage contract based on your country of residence (self-reported plus IP-geo-lookup signal);
- Calculate and display your earnings, payouts, and campaign performance in the Portal;
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- Comply with applicable laws and TikTok's Platform Terms of Use.
4. How we share information
We share personal information only as described below. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share TikTok-sourced information with advertisers or marketing networks.
- Service providers — hosting, database, content delivery, email, and payment service providers, only as needed to operate the Services and under written confidentiality and data-protection terms.
- ipinfo.io (geo-lookup) — when you submit the creator application form, we send your IP address to ipinfo.io to look up your country for form prefill. We do not share your name, email, TikTok handle, or any TikTok-sourced data with ipinfo.io; only the IP address and a generic User-Agent string identifying our application.
- clipping.net (third-party clipping network) — for creators participating in the COURAGE video monetization wizard, we share the post URLs you submit, your TikTok handle (for the one-time social-profile linking step clipping.net requires for payout attribution), and aggregated campaign performance data. clipping.net is an independent third party with its own terms of service and privacy policy. We share only what's necessary to claim payouts on your behalf.
- TikTok and other monetization platforms — we transmit campaign placement information to TikTok and other monetization platforms when you opt into a campaign through the Portal.
- Legal compliance — to comply with applicable law, lawful requests by public authorities, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to affected creators.
5. Data retention
- TikTok identity records — retained while your COURAGE creator account is active and for one year after the account becomes inactive, then deleted.
- Session cookies — 30 days from issue, or sooner if you sign out.
- Contact-form correspondence — up to two years.
- Server logs — 90 days.
- Financial records — as required by applicable tax and accounting laws (typically seven years in the United States).
6. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), or other privacy laws, including the rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Delete your information, subject to legal retention requirements;
- Port your information to another service;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent at any time.
To exercise these rights, email privacy@couragetalent.com. You can also revoke TikTok's authorization at any time from your TikTok account settings under "Manage app permissions" — this disconnects your TikTok account from the Portal.
7. Children's privacy
The Services are intended for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@couragetalent.com and we will delete it.
8. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest where appropriate, access controls, and audit logging. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International data transfers
COURAGE is based in the United States and processes personal information in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your home jurisdiction.
10. Cookies and similar technologies
We use a minimal set of first-party cookies:
- Session cookie (
courage_session) — HTTP-only, signed; identifies your authenticated Portal session. - OAuth state cookie (
courage_oauth_state) — short-lived; protects the TikTok Login Kit flow from cross-site request forgery.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking technologies.
11. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated through the Portal or by email to registered creators.
